Empire Pipeline started operations in 1993 as a 157-mile natural gas transmission pipeline. In 2008, the 77-mile Empire Connector Pipeline was added to the system. Empire's transportation of high-pressure natural gas begins with the receipt of natural gas at its interconnection with the TransCanada Pipeline at a point near Buffalo, NY. This natural gas is then delivered to large manufacturing facilities, local gas utilities and electric generation plants that are located along its pipeline route throughout Western and Central New York continuing east to the Syracuse, NY area. These local gas utilities and electric generators rely on this delivered natural gas to dependably provide energy to over 1 million consumers.

At the end of 2008, the Empire Pipeline was expanded through its "Empire Connector" project. This project created a new route for the transportation of natural gas to the growing energy markets in and around New York City and the Mid-Atlantic region. This 24-inch high-pressure pipeline begins at the existing Empire line at a point near Rochester, New York and continues 77-miles south to Corning, New York, where the natural gas is delivered to the new Millennium pipeline. As a result of this expansion, Empire is now able to economically transport natural gas to several large interstate pipelines, like Millennium, for further delivery to the competitive energy markets along the east coast.

Route

The Empire Pipeline begins at an interconnection with the TransCanada Pipeline at the border between the United States and Canada in the Chippawa Channel of the Niagara River. The pipeline continues eastward for 157 miles - past Buffalo and Rochester, New York, and ending northwest of Syracuse, New York. In addition, Empire Pipeline has additional route that starts its east/west line at a point near Rochester, NY and continues 77-miles south to a point of interconnection with the Millennium Pipeline at Corning, New York.
