Economic Benefits of the Empire Connector Project
- The
project is a $140 million investment in upstate
New York by Empire State Pipeline, an affiliate
of National Fuel Gas Company, an integrated
energy company based in New York State for more
than 100 years.
- The
project will create hundreds of jobs during
the construction period, half of which will
be filled locally. These new jobs include
building the pipeline and a compressor station,
inspectors, and workers to man delivery points.
- Millions
of dollars in new property tax revenue will
go to schools and municipalities in the region.
- Million
of dollars in sales tax revenue will go to local
and state governments through purchasing equipment
and supplies for the Empire Connector locally.
- The
project will stimulate economic activity for
local restaurants, hotels and other small businesses
throughout the proposed pipeline route for the
construction period, as well as during the 3
months after construction as restoration activities
continue.
- Local
retailers will benefit from the general contractor's
purchase of materials such as fuel, stone, sand,
concrete, seed, hay, fertilizer, wood and welding
supplies.
- After
the construction period, local services and
personnel will be required to maintain the 78-mile
pipeline, including mowing, aerial patrolling,
snow plowing and other maintenance.
- Consumers
along the pipeline route will benefit from an
increased supply of competitively priced North
American gas. The supply will also be
increased downstate through downstream pipelines,
reducing supply risk and increasing price stability.
